Tigers open to re-signing Tucker Barnhart

The Tigers have shown early interest in extending the Contract of Catcher Tucker Barnhart. No numbers have been discussed yet but I would assume it would be a little more then he is currently making. Barnhart, 31 has said he would love to talk about an extension but is focused on the task at hand right now. He made it clear he loves Hinch and likes talking with him. I would like this and would love if the Tigers could finally have a solid catcher again. With Dillion Dingler hopefully being a future everyday player, Barnhart is a more than ideal guy to have behind the dish for a few years.

Barnhart is considered one of the MLBs best catchers, and that is what he is primary known for. He has won 2 Gold Glove awards, one in 2017 and another in the short 2020 season. Barnhart has spent his first 7 seasons with the Reds and is entering his 8th season here in Detroit. I think Detroit is a great fit for him and that he will take a step up this year for the Tigers.

Let's look at his career numbers

.248 Batting average

51 Home Runs

246 Base on Balls

561 Hits

261 RBI

And lets glance at his numbers from 2021

.247 Batting average

7 Home Runs

29 Base on Balls

86 Hits

48 RBI

So with the Gold Gloves and the solid Bat I see why the Tigers are already thinking extension. If he starts hot I could see the Tigers doing it quickly. We will just have to see, only time will tell.

So, do you want the Tigers to re-sign Tucker Barnhart?
