Meet the Rookie: Royce Newman






Meet the Rookie, Royce Newman! Royce was born and raised in Nashville, Illinois, attending Nashville Community High School where he was a 3 star recruit (according to 24/7 sports). Royce had offers from the following: Ole Miss, Nebraska, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Iowa State, Missouri, NC State, Penn State, Illinois and Southern Illinois, originally choosing Missouri but decommitting shortly after receiving an offer from Ole Miss, in which he chose. In High School, Royce was named part of the first team Belleville News-Democrat All-Area in both football and basketball. He also played OT, TE and DE in High School.


Royce Redshirted his Freshman year in 2016 and didn't play. As a Redshirt Freshman in 2017, Royce played in 9 games, mostly Special Teams. In 2018 for his Redshirt Sophomore year, Royce played in all 12 games as a reserve lineman. This year he made it onto the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. His Redshirt Junior year in 2019, Royce started all 12 games at LG, only allowing one sack in 416 pass blocking plays.


He played 895 snaps that year, with 768 at LG and 141 at RG. In his final year in 2020 as a Redshirt Senior, Royce started all 10 games at RT, allowing 2 sacks in 430 pass block plays, also earning a nod at the Senior Bowl Top 250. Royce graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in May of 2020.
