In The Bettors Corner: Best Bets week 7

I have been betting football games since I was 12. It's really a family tradition. People would tell me you're not going to win; the games are fixed. How can all these games be fixed, I thought? Impossible. But over the years, you see something that makes you wonder. I'll share with you what I saw Saturday. Georgia is giving 21; they totally dominate the game as usual and lead 30-7 with 11 minutes to play. Kentucky, down three scores, stays in the huddle, uses mostly all of the play clock, and moves down the field with no urgency at all. They find themselves at the Georgia one-yard line with 20 seconds left. They run two plays and don't get in. With one second on the clock, that's right, one second, Kentucky calls a timeout, runs the last play of the game in for a score, and covers the game. Sorry to everyone who had Georgia ( including my little brother), but for those who had the over of 43.5( the extra point was blocked), maybe my late Uncle Joe was right; these games might be fixed. 3-1 last week, on to week 7...

Denver Broncos at Cleveland Browns

TNF

A couple of weeks ago, this looked like a big-time matchup on a Thursday night between two teams that were leading their division. But both have since fell on hard times. Cleveland has lost two in a row, lost Nick Chubb, Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham too. After giving up 47 points to the Chargers, the Browns came home and gave up 37 to the Cardinals! Wow! The defense is a mess, and they are not getting any pressure on the quarterback. Without Chubb and now Kareem Hunt the running game is non existent. In comes Denver losers of three straight themselves with a banged-up Teddy Bridgewater. The Broncos were soundly beaten by a Raiders team that lost their coach in the middle of the week. Denver looks like a team without an identity; Bridgewater is not the guy who can carry a team and overcome a leaky defense. Cleveland will rally around Case Keenum, and the defense will be better; it sure as hell can't be worse. Cleveland in a snooze fest kind of game by a field goal.

BET: Cleveland -1

Philadelphia Eagles at Las Vegas Raiders

4:05pm ET

The Raiders were able to block out all the distractions of the John Gruden situation to play their most complete game of the season. They dominated the Broncos from start to finish. At 4-2 they are in the thick of things in the AFC. Derek Carr is having an MVP year, and the defense keeps putting pressure on the quarterback, with 17 sacks in 6 games. The Eagles fly West to Vegas, having a couple of extra days off after playing the Bucs on Thursday night football. The Eagles hung around long enough to cover the touchdown spread but never seemed a threat to beat the Super Bowl champions. The Eagles are 2-1 straight up and against the spread this year on the road. Jalen Hurts is a serious threat with his legs with 300 yards rushing in the first six games. The Eagles are better than I thought they would be, but at 2-4 the season could be slipping away. They still lack the explosiveness in the passing game it takes to hang with the Raiders. Feeling the weight of the world off their shoulders after a tough week, the Raiders can just concentrate on football. Raiders should cruise here by two scores.

BET: Raiders -3

Kansas City Chiefs at Tennessee Titans

1:00pm ET

Both these teams are coming off impressive wins in week 6. Kansas City bounced back from the loss on Sunday night to Buffalo to win at Washington and cover the spread, a rarity for the Chiefs, and Tennessee outscored the Bills in a Monday Night shootout and have won two in a row since losing to the Jets in overtime. Both these teams can get up and down the field and put points on the board, but both these teams struggle to stop the opponent. Kansas City has long sacrificed their defense for their offensive firepower. They're going to try to outscore you every week. Ironically it was a fourth-down stop in the final minute on Monday Night that helped secure the win against Buffalo for Tennessee. This was after giving up 31 points. This game is going to be full of big plays and turnovers. With stars all over the field like Tyreke Hill, Derrick Henry, Patrick Mahomes, and AJ Brown, this game may hit the total of 58 before halftime. Both defenses are bad, and it should be an entertaining game. I'll take the home team with the points.

BET: Tennessee +4.5

Season record 13-9
