The Cleveland Browns and the Carolina Panthers have agreed on a trade that sends Baker Mayfield to Charlotte. Cleveland receives a conditional 4th or 5th round pick in 2024. Carolina will pay Mayfield $4.85 million, while Cleveland will pay the remaining $10.5 million according to Adam Schefter.
This may come as a surprise to some, but others not so much. It seems the bridge was fully burned between the former #1 overall pick and the Browns organization after the Watson deal. The Browns and Panthers play each other in week one in this upcoming season. Which has now become the second game in week one to feature a quarterback playing his former team.
Baker Mayfield has had an up and down career in Cleveland. But it’s hard to blame the inconsistency on Baker seeing as he’s had four different head coaches in three seasons. In his four seasons Baker has thrown for over 3,000 yards and at least 17 TDs. Maybe this move to Carolina will be what kickstarts his career back up.
